Our Trainers

Margaret Mark

Living on a farm four miles from downtown Midland, married to a wonderful husband Gary of 25 years with one son Roy, I’ve been a professional dog trainer for the past 20 years, teaching Puppy through Utility classes, Fly Ball, Herding, Conformation and Agility. I opened HighMarks K-9 Training back in 1993, seeing the need for being able to take a dog through puppyhood and training it to advanced titles or just being the best pet it can be, while having fun along the way.

My greatest accomplishment has been qualifying in 2005 for the AKC/Eukanuba Championship in Tampa, Florida in all 3 areas, Conformation, Obedience and Agility with my students. This event is by invitation only for the top dogs in the country.

Past and present dogs I’ve owned: Barlo’s Ashley’s Attitude UD, CD better know as Murphy, my first sheltie who taught me the most. Lacey UDX, Multiple High In Trial dog, qualified for the Obedience Invitational in 1997, ranked 2nd in the country for Collies. Rag’s FDX, UD, MX Qualified for Eastern Regional in 1995 for Corgis. CH Sterling Mick UD, AX, HS, VS. Won an Award of Merit and 3rd place in Open on the same day at the Border Collie Nationals in 2001. CH Borderhall Highmark Megastar, Multiple Group Winning, Top winning Bitch owner handled in 2001. Went out to win BOS at the AKC/ Eukanuba Championship in 2006. MACH/CH Niles CD, 2 legs towards open title, sadly died of kidney failure in the spring of 2008. He accomplished a lot in his short 4 ½ years of life. His daughter, Kelly, a sheltie already is following in his footsteps working on her MACH title. Up and coming Reba a red & white border collie just starting her agility career in 2008.

Cathy Webster

Cathy Webster has been living with and learning from dogs for much of her life. Since getting her first Labrador Jake, receiving 2 legs for UD and 2 legs for AX and received their AXJ before having to retire after being diagnosed with laryngeal paralysis. Her second Lab has received CDX and NA and also received her Novice Fly Ball title. Cathy has trained and competed in fly ball, agility, and competitive obedience. While she really enjoys competition, she is also very committed to “starting puppies off on the right foot, including anything we can teach our pups that makes our lives together more fun”. She believes that anyone can have a great relationship with their puppies based on mutual respect, and she loves finding ways to help people and dogs develop that great life-long relationship.

Susan Hoshaw

Susan's interest in dog training began when she was in high school and her family raised a golden retriever puppy for Leader Dogs for the Blind in Rochester, MI. After college and graduate school, she returned to her home town of Midland to work for Dow Corning, now she had time to devote to dog training. Zipper, a golden retriever puppy, arrived in 1999 and together they earned a CDX obedience title. Just as they were ready to compete in Utility, Zipper was diagnosed with cancer in 2007 and died shortly thereafter. Meanwhile, Nicky, a rescued BC joined the family in 2005. Nicky thinks that most everything is fun and he earned his CDX plus several agility titles. Twist, a rescued sheltie arrived in 2007. Susan enjoys working with dogs and learning from both the dogs and their owners. She believes in positive reinforcement training and is interested in helping dogs and the people who love them live, work, and play together.
